Cast Spotlights: Allie Grant (Remy Baker)

Allie Grant is an 18-year-old actress from Tulepo, Mississippi who currently lives in Los Angeles. In Struck By Lightning, she plays the high-strung and ambitious student body president, Remy Baker.

Grant has wanted to act for as long as she can remember, and by the age of 10 she landed roles in the Disney Channel shows That’s So Raven (2005) and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (2006 - 2007). She is best known for her role as Isabelle Hodes in the Showtime television series Weeds (2005 - 2009), a role which earned her two SAG nominations for “Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series.” Her role in Weeds was also the first time she worked with Brian Dannelly, the director of Struck By Lightning, who cast her in the show. Grant also appeared in the films The Fanboys (2009) and The Runaways (2010).

In 2011, Grant graduated as the valedictorian of her high school class and attended Harvard University’s Summer Program. She then began filming the ABC series Suburgatory (2011-) in which she co-stars, playing Lisa Shay. In May 2012, the show was renewed for a second season which will begin airing in this fall, as will the film Struck By Lightning.

GleeFan Exclusive: Chris Colfer Q&A on Land of Stories, Struck by Lightning, Glee and more!

Q: “Who are you more likely to be pals with in real life–Carson or Kurt?” – Tasha V. (17, Philippines)
A: I’m not sure I would be friends with either. We’re all such different species I’m not sure what we would talk about. Fashion? Journalism? History? You can only talk about ambition for so long at lunch. I can see it now:

CHRIS: Did you know French support for the American Revolution partly caused the French Revolution?
CARSON: Did you know I really don’t give a s***?
KURT: I wish Blaine was here.
CHRIS: Check, please!

Q: “What was the funnest thing to film in your new movie?” – Angie (17, Casa Grande, AZ)
A: Probably the homecoming scene. It’s not every day you get to dress up as school supplies and pull Rebel Wilson across a football field…at least at work.

Q: “Who were your biggest supporters during the writing process for Struck By Lightning? Or who was your biggest fan of the script?” – Maddie F. (13, Ohio)
A: I’m gonna have to give this one to my grandmothers, real and fake. My real grandma was always my cheerleader as I was getting it made. I would come home feeling disheartened (it’s hard getting a movie made) and call her and she’d always give me a peep talk. And Polly Bergen has sung praise of the movie since we sent her the script. I love that lady so much, she’s such a legend. I consider working/knowing her to be one of the greatest gifts I could ever get being in this business.

Q: “What drew you to casting Allison Janney in ‘Struck by Lightning’ and how was it working with her?” -Keely M. (21, Washington, DC)
A: From the minute I wrote “SHERYL” in the first draft of SBL, Allison was and has always been the only actress in my head. I can’t even explain it. Working with her physically may have been the most surreal part of the experience because I had been working with her mentally for so long. And boy did we have fun! Love her!

Character Spotlights: Scott Thomas (Graham Rogers)
“Hello world! I’m Scott Thomas! You may recognize me from Clover High School’s production of Pippin, which I starred in and chorographed!”

It was extraordinary for me, because I was surrounded by these wonderful, wonderful actors who were all so true and so real and so who they played that it was literally true for me. I arrived on the set, I didn’t have to think for one moment about who Grandma was. I didn’t have to think about who anyone else was. Chris wrote a script that was so honest and so profound that all of us simply had to be who we were, just real people doing a true story… Every day was a joy and a surprise and a revelation for me, and it was truly one of the best experiences I’ve had in my 70 years of acting.
— Polly Bergen

We shot this movie in sixteen days. And I think out of the eight outfits that I had in the movie, five of them were mine. It was the most collaborative, wonderful experience that I’ve ever had on a set. Everyone was a part of everything, really. And a lot of the film was improv too, because Chris gave us all such freedom. And Brian – I think the thing that makes him such a great director is he doesn’t say no. He’s the most encouraging, supporting director. So you just kind of get to come to work and work, which I love.

Anonymous asked:
How come you didn't reblog that article about sbl's release?

Because we already posted it, back on May 3.

I think because someone pulled the line about being released in late 2012 and changed it to the headline, everyone thinks it’s new. It’s not. And they’ve been consistently saying late 2012 for release since last summer, so it’s not really new information.

I just graduated college last year, so coming onto this, suddenly it’s like, “Okay, you’re going to be working with people like Polly Bergen, Chris Colfer…” So that was a dream in itself. I really have to thank everybody involved because when you come onto your first endeavor, something this – I mean, it’s small, but it’s huge; it’s a huge project – it’s very easy to feel out of your league… It was really the collaboration that stunned me, because I didn’t think people were that giving in this industry, but they are.
